Watch: Florida standout ties incredible NCAA home run record

Florida baseball standout Jac Caglianone continued his landmark season by hitting another milestone Friday against No. 13 Vanderbilt.

In the top of the sixth inning, Caglianone went deep, driving a pitch over the right-field fence to post his ninth consecutive game with a home run, tying an NCAA record.

Caglianone's sixth-inning homer was his 23rd of the season. Meanwhile, along with leading the Gators in every significant offensive statistic, his 1-for-4 evening lifted his batting average to an impressive .405.

The 6-foot-5 lefty is also an accomplished pitcher, earning comparisons to Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani. Through eight starts on the mound this season, Caglianone owns a 4-0 record while boasting the lowest ERA (3.89) and batting average against (.187) on the Florida staff.

Caglianone's proclivity for pitching and hitting isn't uncommon among the college ranks. However, despite undergoing Tommy John surgery during his freshman year, the 21-year-old plans to continue playing both ways, even into his professional career. When asked about the potential risks, he said he had "no interest in stopping whatsoever.

Showcasing incredible bat skills and a pro-worthy pitching arsenal, Caglianone is on the short list of top MLB prospects. With the 2024 draft roughly three months away, beginning on July 14, the Gators star is expected to hear his name called relatively early.

According to MLB.com, Caglianone is the fifth-rated prospect in college baseball, behind only West Virginia SS/2B JJ Wetherholt, Wake Forest 1B Nick Kurtz, Oregon State 2B Travis Bazzana and Georgia OF/1B Charlie Condon.
