The Baltimore Orioles are one of the best teams in the league right now and their farm system is stacked with talented prospects. However, one of those prospects took a hard fall and is now out with injury.

Coby Mayo, the club’s No. 3 prospect, officially suffered a fractured rib after falling into the dugout, according to Bleacher Report. Mayo is expected to miss “several weeks.”

“Orioles No. 3 prospect Coby Mayo will miss ‘several weeks’ after fracturing his rib on this play.”

That’s just a brutal fall no matter how you look at it. The Orioles prospect just didn’t see the dugout in time and ended up suffering an injury. It’s a less than ideal situation, as Coby Mayo has been one of the best hitting prospects over the years. But now he’ll miss several weeks which likely means he won’t make his MLB debut until much later than anticipated.

Coby Mayo is known as a power hitter and many believe his talents will translate well at the pro level. He’s been on a tear this season, hitting a solid .291 batting average, 13 home runs, and 37 RBIs through 42 games. Mayo is expected to be promoted to the Orioles’ roster at some point this season with many fans believing he is ready for that opportunity.

But now with this injury, Coby Mayo’s MLB debut is going to have to wait. Hopefully, he makes a speedy recovery and can get back in action sooner, rather than later. We should expect May to return to the Orioles’ AAA affiliate sometime in the summer.

Orioles World Series chances

Despite losing Coby Mayo to injury, the Orioles are still one of the best teams in baseball. They’re currently just one game behind the first placed New York Yankees in the American League East. Additionally, Baltimore is primed to make a deep playoff run, as their roster stacks up with the best of them.

The Orioles are led by a fantastic offense that’s just tough to beat. Meanwhile, their pitching rotation is one of the more consistent groups in the MLB. They’re stacked top to bottom and Baltimore is only going to get better in the long run.

With that said, their World Series hopes are alive but it’ll be tough to win. The New York Yankees look like contenders this season. Meanwhile, The Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Atlanta Braves are all good enough to represent the National League in the World Series. It’ll be a tough go to win a championship this year but the Orioles certainly have the talent to go the distance.

Baltimore are in the middle of a fun series as they’re taking on the Seattle Marlins, who are in first place of the AL West. Beating the Marlins in this three-game series should give them the juice to go on a hot streak with summer right around the corner.
